What is Religious Trauma and Why Don’t We Already Know? A Call for
Intersectional, Empirical Research

The study of religious trauma is a relatively new phenomenon. As such, there is limited academic literature for scholars, mental health practitioners and the public to refer to exploring relevant theories such as intersectionality and betrayal trauma to name a few. Our team produced this literature review that amalgamates research on religious trauma/spiritual abuse up to 2021, and presents a 'call for future research' to individual researchers, collaborators of NARC-RT, and clinicians to more adequately fill these gaps.
